Overwhelmed by marketing? Here’s what to do first.

Oct 2, 2025 | Blog

Okay, real talk.
If you’re feeling like your brain is spinning with all the “marketing things” you’re supposed to be doing… I see you.

You’ve probably got:

  • An email platform you haven’t logged into in weeks
  • An IG account you post to when you remember
  • A list of content ideas scribbled in a notebook somewhere
  • And zero idea what’s actually working

Sound about right?

If so — deep breath. You are not broken.
You’re just buried under too many “shoulds” and not enough strategy.

Let’s fix that. Together.

Let’s Start With This Truth: It’s Not You. It’s the Lack of a Plan.

You’re not lazy.
You’re not unmotivated.
You’re not “bad at marketing.”

You’re a small business owner doing your absolute best to grow a business, wear 47 hats, and still have a life. Marketing can feel like an entirely separate full-time job — and without a strategy, it kinda is.

But here’s the good news:
You don’t need a million platforms or a 100-day content calendar.
You need a clear, realistic plan that works for you — not against you.

What Most People Do (That Keeps Them Spinning)

I see this happen all the time (and yep, I’ve done it too):

You hear a tip on Instagram → you try it
You download a checklist → now you’re overwhelmed
You buy a course → and now you feel behind

Next thing you know, you’ve got half-finished projects and no new clients.

That’s not because you’re not smart or strategic — it’s because no one gave you the big-picture plan to tie it all together.

So let’s build that.

Here’s What I Walk My Clients Through (And You Can Steal This)

Let’s keep this simple and make it feel doable — not like another to-do list.

Step 1: Who are you talking to?

No really — who?

Like, actually?

Not “busy moms” or “anyone who needs marketing.”
I mean the real person — the one who’s struggling with a specific thing that you can help solve.

Ask yourself:

  • What do they say when they’re venting to a friend?
  • What do they Google late at night?
  • What are they afraid won’t ever change?

When you speak directly to them, marketing gets so much easier.

Step 2: What’s the transformation you offer?

We’re not just talking features here.

No one wakes up excited about “email automation.”
But they do want to stop ghosting their leads or feel confident that they’re not dropping the ball.

So ask:
What’s different for someone after they work with you?

Clarity sells. Always.

Step 3: Pick one platform to focus on first

Not all of them. Not even two.
Just pick one to start — and give it your energy for 30–60 days.

Ask:

  • Where does your ideal client already hang out?
  • What platform feels most natural for you to create on?
  • What’s sustainable with your current schedule?

Email, Instagram, YouTube, a blog… pick what works for you.
Permission to stop spreading yourself thin.

Step 4: Build a baby funnel

I know “funnel” sounds intense, but stay with me.

Here’s the simple flow:

  1. Offer a freebie that solves a small problem
  2. Send a few emails to nurture trust
  3. Point people to your offer

That’s it.
You don’t need 17 steps or a tech stack from Silicon Valley.
Start small. Grow as you go.

Story Time: When Simple Finally Worked

One of my clients — let’s call her Ashley — came to me with 6 platforms, 3 email lists, and so much burnout.

She was trying everything but had no idea what was actually moving the needle.
We simplified. Like, big time.

We:
✅ Picked Instagram + email
✅ Created a super simple lead magnet
✅ Set up 3 nurturing emails
✅ Clarified her main offer and CTA

She went from overwhelmed to organized.
And she started getting consistent inquiries within 6 weeks — without doing more.

Here’s What You Don’t Need:

❌ Daily content
❌ Every platform
❌ A sales funnel that rivals a tech startup
❌ To be a marketing expert

You just need clarity.
And a plan that doesn’t make you want to hide under a blanket.

Here’s What You Do Need:

✅ A clear message
✅ A real understanding of your audience
✅ One platform to focus on
✅ One way to nurture (like email)
✅ One offer to promote

Marketing can actually feel good when it’s aligned with your voice, your schedule, and your mission.

Final Thoughts: You’re Not Behind. You’re Ready for Clarity.

If you’ve been feeling like your marketing is just one big noisy blur — it’s okay.

You don’t need to do more.
You need to do the right things.
And you don’t have to figure that out alone.
